The Easiest Homemade Nut Milk Ever

Something super random that you didn’t ask to know about me but here it is…..I’ve NEVER been a milk drinker. Like never, ever. I promise I was off dairy before it was trendy. According to my mom, as a young child I refused to drink it so she never pushed it. And I grew up in the 90’s in Minnesota, where drinking milk with every meal was the thing to do. I still remember sleep overs at friends houses where it was automatically assumed I’d want a glass of milk to drink with dinner, and I would either awkwardly own up to the fact that I didn’t like milk and I’d prefer water (parents were always confused about that), or I would choke down a few teeny tiny sips to be polite. At school I never grabbed a milk carton with my lunch and at home I only used milk to wet my cereal.

So basically, I was an easy all-in with non dairy milk when it became a common item at grocery stores. But as I learned more about nutrition, I realized that a lot of the non diary milks out there (even the organic brands!) have a lot of added ingredients that I’d prefer not to ingest. Not to mention they can be a little on the pricey side.

Enter, the simplest solution to non dairy milk ever.

So simple and so cost effective you may never buy non diary milk ever again. Or even if you do you’ll feel great that if you had to you could make your own milk and feel all homestead-y. Or at least that’s how I feel about it, tell me if I’m wrong.

A few notes about the recipe…it calls for nut butter and I usually buy mine, but you could also make your own if you wanted something a little unconventional such as macadamia nut milk. All it would take would be buying the nuts in bulk, soaking and then blending until smooth. A few extra steps but definitely worth it! Also, because this recipe has a 1:1 ratio of nut butter to water, it’s super easy to make however big or small of a batch you need. Some days I’ll make 4 cups, but others only 2.

Easy homemade non dairy milk

4 tbsp your choice nut butter (I personally like cashew or almond)

4 cups of water

3 dates pitted and soaked overnight

dash of himalayan salt

blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth and frothy. pour into a glass jar. enjoy!
