*Actually* Healthy Hot Coco

IMG_4624.JPG

One of my absolute faaaaavvv winter treats! I actually never used to like hot coco all that much until I discovered my own lil recipe and now it’s my perfect go-to for those winter campfires, afternoon warm ups, or a nighttime treat.

How to make your hot coco the most nutritious

First, CACAO! Cacao powder is made from fermented, non-roasted cacao beans and processed at low temperatures. This allows cacao to be very rich in not only flavor but essential minerals as well! Cacao is a great source of magnesium, very high in antioxidants, and contains little to no added sugar.

I always add a scoop (or two) of collagen into my hot coco. This provides more protein while benefiting hair, skin, nails, and joints. Plus it gives the drink an extra creamy texture!

For even more nutrition, I’ll add a dab of coconut oil to my hot coco. Coconut oil is a healthy fat and contains many antimicrobial properties. It’s great for a healthy gut microbiome, brain health, and glowing skin.

I love adding cinnamon as well, not only for the flavor but also because cinnamon improves the effectiveness of our insulin, promoting healthy blood sugars! I make sure I do this especially if I’m drinking this at night, because our body tends to be more insulin resistant after the sun goes down.

1.5 cups your choice of non dairy milk

1 tbsp cacao powder (NOT coco powder)

1-2 scoops collagen

1 /2-1 tsp coconut oil
